January 1, 2014
I hope you all have enjoyed a wonderful holiday season with family and friends. The Board would like to express our appreciation to Connie McNulty, the 2013 Board, Centennial Committee, and many volunteers and staff who made our 100th season such a success. The historical book is progressing nicely and will include highlights from this past centennial summer. It is expected to available at the start of the season.
During the Annual Meeting in October, the Board reviewed preliminary financials for 2013 and communicated a dues increase and discontinuance of the assessment. The membership approved the Nominating Committee's proposed Board slate. The club welcomes new Board members Gigi Gowdy, Pool; Becky Baun, Membership and Bill Dodge, House. In addition, the Annual Meeting venue was moved to the Club this year as the meeting date was permanently moved to the third Saturday in October. It was a pleasure to be back at the club in October and to see so many of you there.
We are pleased to have Jeannette back as club manager for her 11th season and Billy will continue as the assistant manager. We are also happy to have Brandi's returning to the Seaside Grill for another season.
The Board has been busy preparing for the fast approaching summer season. Treasury has been allocating budgets based on historical operating spend over the last four years. One upcoming project that will be completed before the club's opening in 2014 is the replacement of support beams under the wing next to the playground. Additionally this spring, you will receive a survey asking for your thoughts and feedback on how the club can better serve you and your family this season.
Dues for all members are increasing this year to assure appropriate coverage of operating expenses. The need for an increase has been an on-going discussion. The Board carefully reviewed several models last spring and decided on the following increases in October for Members, Subscribers and Monday - Friday by $300, Widow/Widower by $150, and Emeritus by $50. The last dues increase for the general membership was 11 years ago.
You will soon be receiving your Membership Profile, which should be returned with your $250 deposit due on or before February 7th. Your profile may be updated on the B&T website under the "My Profile" tab (visible when you log in). The timely return of your profile and deposit is important to the start of our membership committee's activities and club operations. You may also print a copy of the profile form by downloading it from the web site:
Looking forward to another great summer at the B & T!
From Lisa Garlitz: my girls and a couple friends sang a song by Phillip Phillips called "Gone Gone Gone". I rewrote the lyrics as a tribute to the B&T. Several people have suggested that I post the lyrics to the website:
GONE GONE GONE
When summer leaves you high and dry
We’ll be at the beach tonight
At the BNT, BNT
And when the sun goes down tonight
We’ll be making our smores just right
At the BNT, BNT
You are invited to celebrate the closing dance of our centennial season on August 31st, 2013. In keeping with our theme, Past, Present and Future, we would ask the question—who are you?
Who among you would like to spend a night as someone from the past? Who among you would like to step into the future for one night and show us what it might look like at a dance 25 years from now?
So far we have had a great week! The new solar pannels have been keeping the pool at a beautiful 79 degrees!
Join us on Friday, Janet Douglas from the MAC will be teaching the 9am-10am aqua aerobics class ($10 per participant).
Swimming lessons and swim practice have been going great! If you would like your kids to join us the schedules are included below! It's not too late to join the swim team and get a head start on next season!
The splash party is this Thursday, I hope to see everyone here!
Have a great week! Laura Dale Pool Director
